I spent a fair bit of time last night with boyfy, watching videos of the musician/ comedian Tim Minchin, and was impressed by the wealth of general and cultural knowledge from which he drew his material. And then I realised that while I may 'appreciate' his humour and entertainment, the truth was that most of the bits and pieces of topics / names he mentioned were but a blur or just outside the radar of my knowledge.
I hate that.
I hate that I have turned into a zombie, where all that my daily routine involves in work, sleep, eat, Reddit, Icanhaszheezburger and Facebook.
I hate that I spend so much time at Chadstone doing absolutely nothing, buying and reading trashy romance books, or I haven't read the 2 most substantial books that I've bought so far (one by Wally Lamb, I've forgotten what the title is, and the other is a book on car repairs, with coloured pictures for doofus' like myself)
I hate that I don't have anything to look forward to during the day, night or weekend.
I hate that I don't have a hobby.
I hate that I don't do anything intellectual, or at least something that increases my skillset.
Well, I hope to change that. Step one!
I don't read, so I hope to change that by spending an hour every night reading something worthwhile, and then writing nightly reports online here on what I've read.
Reading materials include:
-periodicals
-the news
-technology
-politics
-medicine (comes under science again)
-beginner motor enthusiast
-business
-anatomy (I'll probably encounter this under medicine, but hey!)
-food! New cooking methods, recipes even?
No one cares about Paris Hilton, Angelina Jolie or what Hollywood has been up to, so strike those kinds of reading material.
An additional bit that I shall include, ending each entry, to imporve / widen my vocabulary, is the new word/s that I've learnt that night and their definitions.
Tonight, I start!!!
